The head of a company proposing a building up to 12 stories tall near the Tennessee Aquarium said he has had some pushback about plans for the tower, but he’s still aiming to finalize purchase of the site by year’s end.
“Chattanooga can grow up or out,” Nash Bowen, chief executive of the locally based private equity firm Kronos Capital, said in an interview this week at the Market Street and Aquarium Way corner.
Bowen is proposing condominiums, retail space and offices on the parcel holding the former 212 Market restaurant and an existing two-story building at the corner, at 200 Market St.

He said he can clear the site and put up a six-story building without rezoning or getting a variance from the city, though a 12-level structure may be the better version.
