Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant suspended assembly Friday and will resume Tuesday due to a North Carolina parts supplier hit by Hurricane Helene, an official said Sunday.

Also, the Chattanooga plant has brought in about 100 engineering or research and development employees in the past six months to a year to support the automaker’s operations, Pablo Di Si, chief executive of Volkswagen Group of America, said during a panel discussion.

Di Si said one supplier was involved in the production suspension due to Helene, but he wasn’t sure if “subsuppliers” to the affected company were part of the issue.

“We will restart on Tuesday,” he said in an interview after the panel discussion held by the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association.

In September, Volkswagen Chattanooga temporarily suspended production of the ID.4 amid a recall of more than 98,000 of the electric SUVs.
