A block by Arts & Sciences junior middle hitter Savanna Moore resounded through the gym in Tuesday’s practice for the Lady Patriots volleyball program.

Moore’s punishing defense at the front net has been a staple for three years in a row on the campus located off East 3rd Street. Well on her way to a third straight all-state selection, the 5-foot-10 Moore will look to help CSAS advance to the TSSAA Class 1A state tournament for the third consecutive year with a win in Thursday’s 7 p.m. home sectional match.

The TSSAA state volleyball tournament takes place next week in Murfreesboro from October 22-25. Meanwhile, Chattanooga will host the TSSAA girls’ soccer state tournament held from October 23-26. In Georgia, the first round of the state playoffs in softball will begin this week.

“I think Savanna is the best middle in Single-A,” 16th-year CSAS head volleyball coach Brandon Lowry said. “She can take over a game when she wants to. She can just take over an opponent on the defensive side.”

In one game earlier this year, Moore accounted for eight solo blocks. She could finish her prep career next year with close to, or over 200 rejections at the net.
