What would you be doing if you didn’t have to make money?

That’s a question that Kelsey Keener, the lead farmer of Sequatchie Cove Farm, knows the answer to without a doubt.

“This is what I want to be doing,” Keener told me while we stood in the fading October sunlight in the Sequatchie Valley. “This is not a job or a career. I genuinely feel like this is my mission in life. This is what I want to be doing.”

Keener’s mission is education, paired with regenerative farming practices, all while bringing others into this way of life and into community with each other.

“Proving to the world and the agricultural world that it can be done,” Keener said of regenerative agriculture. “This can replace our current food system. This isn’t some niche thing. I’m not doing this because I want to sell fancy food to rich people. I’m doing this because I think this needs to replace the current food system.”
