Here are the five biggest surprises from last week’s high school football action from across the Greater Chattanooga area:

1. Trojans all the way back?

There seems to be a real revival of Soddy Daisy’s football program and success is being generated in the area where most football games are won: the line of scrimmage. Led by senior offensive linemen Lake Renfro, Jonathan Davis, Jordy Dodd and Chase Wilson along with junior right tackle Pete Laxton, the Trojans are man-handling their opponents and paving the way to success.

In the season opener, Soddy Daisy rushed the ball 51 times for 194 yards in an eye-opening 49-42 win over Rhea County, a win which looks even more impressive now after the Golden Eagles held Red Bank to 93 rushing yards in a 35-7 bounce back win. The Trojans followed up a grand debut with 49 carries for 331 rushing yards — 300 of which came in the second half — in last Friday’s 28-0 road shutout of Ooltewah.

Soddy Daisy (2-0) looks like a region contender with a stable group of playmakers led by Gage Welch and Tucker Ross.
