A Japanese maker of specialty chemicals, and one of the first companies to land at Centre South Riverport more than three decades ago, has ceased production with the 22.7-acre site up for sale, officials said.

Sofix Corp., which opened in 1992 with 35 employees and planned to hit nearly twice that number, had about 20 or so workers when it shut down, said Steve Hiatt, the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce’s director of existing business development.

Hiatt said while production was stopped for months at the plant in the industrial park off Amnicola Highway outside downtown, Sofix officially shut down in July.
