After opening with impressive home wins over three out-of-state opponents, Friday night provided a chance for Baylor School’s football program to send a message to the rest of Tennessee, particularly all of TSSAA Division II-AAA.

Consider the message sent.

Facing a Lipscomb Academy team that has seven of the state’s top 50 college prospects for the class of 2025, the top-ranked Red Raiders built a 30-0 lead on the road and rolled to an emphatic 37-7 win in Nashville. It was the most lopsided loss for the Mustangs since a 38-0 thumping at the hands of Battle Ground Academy in 2018.

“We wanted to make a statement on where we are as a program,” Red Raiders third-year head coach Erik Kimrey said. “I think we accomplished that. I’m pleased with where we are right now.”

Since rallying for a season-opening win over nationally ranked Rabun Gap from Northeast Georgia, Baylor has beaten its past three foes by an average score of 43-12.
