One of the biggest keys to success in high school football comes in being able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
In the Chattanooga-area there are not many operating as well up front as Soddy Daisy is through a strong 4-1 start for the Trojans in their first year under head coach Josh Owensby.
Senior left guard Jonathan Davis has been a “human pancake highlight reel”, while fourth-year starting center Lake Renfro has been the “glue guy” who holds a dominant offensive line together. One that has paved the way to an average of 256 rushing yards per game along with 19 rushing touchdowns.
“This level of dominance the guys have shown up front is what we expected could happen,” Owensby said. “Our coaching staff has seen they were special since July. We really felt like we could get on their backs and go. We believed and they believed. They are a great group.”
By halftime of last Thursday’s 31-14 home win over Central, which snapped a three-year losing skid to the Purple Pounders, the Trojans had ran 46 plays totaling 298 yards (258 rushing) compared to just 12 plays total for their opposition.
