We began the countdown on July 6. Here we are now, 36 days later and with less than a week remaining before the 2025 high school football season officially kicks off.

We’ve almost made it to another season that promises plenty of drama, surprises and memories made.

After a summer of conditioning, lifting weights and 7-on-7 tournaments, teams across the Chattanooga area now begin to take steps toward achieving whatever goals they have set: a winning record, qualifying for the postseason, a region title, making a deeper playoff run or even a state championship. It’s all a reality now as everyone begins with a clean slate.

Since the countdown began, the Times Free Press sports staff has produced daily prep football stories to help our readers stay informed and get primed for the coming season. All the while, besides those daily features, we have been working to produce the content needed to fill this annual special section, which is sort of a one-stop shopping informational guide.

In it you will find previews for 46 area teams in Georgia and Tennessee, including players to watch, plus this year’s Dynamite Dozen list of the area’s top 12 college prospects from the high school class of 2026.
