A man was arrested Friday night in connection with a homicide earlier in the evening in the 7700 block of Lee Highway, according to a press release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Guster Harfield, 64, was charged with first-degree murder, according to the release.

Authorities responded to a report on Friday at 9:10 p.m. of a 43-year-old man shot in the parking lot of a motel. They found him dead with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release.

According to the release, authorities were aided by images of the suspect’s vehicle, which they tracked down and pulled over for a traffic stop at around 10:30 p.m. Harfield wasn’t in the vehicle, but authorities said they were able to link it to him. They later located Harfield at his residence.

Harfield was taken in for questioning and admitted to the shooting, according to the release.

Information is subject to change as the investigation continues.
