A Chattanooga man was indicted and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting a man who was left paralyzed from the waist down and later died from his injuries.
Jakel Woods, 22, was also indicted on one count of reckless endangerment and two counts of possession of a firearm with a prior violent felony conviction, according to an Aug. 20 grand jury bill.
Chattanooga police officers responded during the early morning hours of March 25 to a report of a person shot on East Brainerd Road, according to an affidavit in the case.
Keenan Glenn was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the back, causing him to be paralyzed from the waist down, the affidavit said. He was transported to Erlanger hospital for treatment.

A detective responded to the hospital to speak with Glenn, and he allegedly told the detective he was driving home from work when he stopped at a red light at Brainerd and East Brainerd roads.
“The victim got out of his vehicle to retrieve a Bluetooth connector from the trunk of his vehicle, and that was when he heard a gunshot,” the affidavit said. “The victim was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground.”
Glenn allegedly told police the shot came from the back seat of a car, and he wished to prosecute the responsible party for attempted murder.
At the scene of the shooting, police found Glenn’s car in addition to an abandoned 2008 green Ford Escape, which the shooter fled from, the affidavit said.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered Woods was sitting in the Ford Escape’s back seat. He allegedly told police he shot Glenn.
“Woods said when the victim got quickly out of the victim’s vehicle, Woods perceived the victim as a threat and shot the victim,” the affidavit said.
Glenn ultimately died, Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp said by text message.
He died about two months after the shooting, according to the jury bill.
Woods is being held at the Hamilton County Jail. He previously pleaded guilty in 2022 to two counts of aggravated assault, according to the Criminal Court clerk’s office.
