You’re at home. It’s cold and dark outside. You don’t feel like going out. You don’t feel like cooking. Ordering in seems like a good game plan.

Scrolling through the options on DoorDash you find a cute little spot called Coop & Run. You order a salad with buttermilk dressing and fried chicken tenders. Maybe some loaded fries, too. What you don’t know is that this Coop & Run — the restaurant with the cute logo and great fries — it’s actually an O’Charley’s.

A ghost kitchen is a virtual food brand operated out of either a space that is not open to the public for dining or out of an existing restaurant.

A quick spin through the DoorDash app in search of local ghost kitchens reveals plenty of these virtual brands — which is how DoorDash labels them online.
