State Rep. Greg Martin, R-Hixson, who announced he will run for reelection in 2026, is heading back to the Capitol in January with plans to pass a newly introduced bill to expand the use of the death penalty in cases of child rape and continue to push for legislation to eliminate state sales taxes on baby diapers and formula.

It would be Martin’s third term if reelected. The Hixson High School graduate and former Hamilton County commissioner announced his reelection run in December.

Martin, a real estate agent, was first elected as state representative in 2022 and filled the seat left vacant by former state Rep. Robin Smith, R-Hixson, after she was indicted on wire fraud charges and resigned. In the most recent election for his seat, Martin had no Republican challenger in the primary and beat the Democratic challenger, Allison Gorman, in the general election.
