The latest draft of possible new tax incentive policies to attract businesses has dropped a contested provision that would have let the Chattanooga City Council delegate approval of some agreements to the industrial development board.
The city council asked to remove that delegation measure, Charita Allen, a senior adviser for economic and workforce development for Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, said Monday.
Council members wanted to hold on to the ability to review all the potential agreements, she said after a meeting of the industrial development board, which was briefed on the newest draft.

Earlier proposals on the policy discussion, which goes back to 2023, had included permitting the council to assign approval to the industrial development board of some agreements with a term of 10 years or less.
