Preserve surface parking for events
I am writing to amplify the excellent Jan. 20 letter written by George Patten who eloquently stated the case for not allowing River City Co. and the City of Chattanooga to develop the surface parking lots along the Riverfront Parkway. These lots are essential for staging events such as Head of the Hooch, Chattajack and Ironman. Head of the Hooch, for example, needs and uses all the flat land available along Riverfront Parkway – from the Springhill Suites to the Hunter Museum. Ironman also needs this land to stage their event as well.
These events are free for the many residents who attend, and these events bring tourists and their money to Chattanooga. Our city has plenty of room for development without sacrificing the surface parking lots that make these premier events possible.
I hope the mayor, the City Council, and the Planning Commission will put the interests of the residents ahead of the interests of the developers and River City Co.

Do we Americans want an oligarachy?
The level of outright hypocrisy with regard to American voters is staggering and indefensible.
On one hand, our nation just experienced four years of a loving and caring president who produced one of the best economies ever, no matter if you accept it as a fact or not. Did he make mistakes or misjudgments? Of course, all presidents do and all presidents will. Any and all presidents will make decisions that can and will turn sour at times. However, Joe Biden’s head and his heart were always with the American people, and not focused on just himself.
The U.S. is currently in a situation in which we are headed directly into becoming a full-blown oligarchy, where our goverment system is completely controlled by a handful of narcissistic, greedy old white men.
I want nothing but the very best for my country. However, having the best means the best for all – not just an elite few.

Reject RFK Jr.; he is unfit for post
The U.S. Senate must reject Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to serve as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
As we saw at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee hearing this week, RFK Jr. lacks the qualifications, experience, and credibility required to oversee our nation’s health care system. The Secretary of Health and Human Services must have the experience and expertise necessary to effectively lead the many critical departments under HHS that promote and protect public health.
RFK Jr.’s track record is profoundly disturbing and shows that he promotes dangerous health misinformation and conspiracy theories in ways that directly threaten public safety. Our families deserve leadership rooted in science, truth, and responsibility – not conspiracy and recklessness!
I urge our all senators to vote “no” on this nomination.
