It didn’t take very long for Parker Robison to realize he made the right choice.

After dealing with an unforgiving recruiting process that now favors transfers with a track record in college basketball over prospects from the high school ranks — especially if you’re not considered a sure thing — the former McCallie standout and team captain for the Blue Tornado decided to walk on at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Robison, a 6-foot guard, presumed his first year at UTC would be a redshirt season. He figured if he made it onto the court at all, it would be late in the game when the Mocs were either up (or down) substantially.

That’s usually the role of a freshman walk-on player, right?

And then during an early scrimmage at Kennesaw State, he found himself logging some key minutes — more than 13 of them — in the 86-81 loss to the Owls, finishing the game with two points, three assists, four steals and just one turnover.
