Shy Harrison may no longer be able to get out on the court for the Tyner girls’ basketball team, but what the senior has meant to the Lady Rams over the past three years is invaluable.

In a sense, she has played a part in changing the program.

When coach Xavier Marshall returned to his high school alma mater in 2022 after a successful stint with the Chattanooga State women’s basketball program, Harrison stood out to him as a leader from day one.

“I gave Shy the team because she showed up every day in the gym or on the track for workouts and set a great example for the girls,” Marshall said of the point guard. “She has displayed so much heart on the court for this program. Last year as a junior, she won the district player of the year and helped us win 20 games. That was the most the Lady Rams have won since the 2005-06 season. She has been a difference maker.”

Disappointment, though, struck early in Harrison’s final prep basketball season when she went down and could not get up. Carried off the court by Marshall, she would later find out it was an ACL tear that would not allow Harrison to return this winter.
