Planning commissioners narrowly granted a rezoning request to allow a drive-through only coffee shop between Chattanooga Christian School and a Publix supermarket on Broad Street, but with a condition.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission on Monday voted 5-4 in favor of the rezoning, so long as the Scooter’s coffee shop planned for 3524 Broad St. does not have any vehicle access from Charger Drive.
As many as 1,000 cars pick up and drop off students at the private K-12 school’s entrance on the road each day.
The 0.3-acre parcel nestled between Charger Drive and Broad Street was formerly home to a bank and then High Point Antiques. N & R Properties purchased the lot in May 2024 for $850,000, according to county property records.
The parcel has a drive-through lane and is zoned for commercial use but would need a new commercial zone geared toward auto activities in order to be drive-through only.
