EDITOR’S NOTE: Since 2002, the Times Free Press has highlighted the top 12 college football prospects among Chattanooga-area seniors with its preseason Dynamite Dozen. This is the start of a daily series of features counting down this year’s list from No. 12 to No. 1.

CALHOUN, Ga. — Interior defensive linemen often toil in obscurity, except when it comes to opposing teams. The more talented and disruptive they are, the more attention they get from offensive linemen.

In Calhoun’s run to the GHSA Class AAA state championship last season, an explosive offense led by freshman quarterback Trace Hawkins, electric receiver Justin Beasley and current University of Texas tight end Emaree Winston earned most of the headlines.

However, when Yellow Jackets coach Clay Stephenson attended the Region 7-AAA coaches meeting a few weeks ago, the name of another Calhoun player kept coming up.

“We were talking, and the other coaches kept telling me Sager Quinn was the one guy they had to game plan for offensively, and that’s a great compliment to give a defensive lineman,” Stephenson said of the 6-foot-3, 290-pounder.
