A survey funded by Republican Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp’s reelection campaign, which asked about his performance, his sister, two of Wamp’s critics on the County Commission, tourism funding, tax increases and the schools superintendent, is stirring conversation.
“The poll was conducted by Mayor Wamp’s campaign committee, not the County Mayor’s Office,” Paris Vinnett, a spokesperson for Wamp, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press on Tuesday.
Those who initially received a text about the survey received an introductory message.
“Good afternoon, this is Alice with Wick Insights,” the message said. “We are a national public opinion research firm conducting a short survey on issues important to the residents of Hamilton.”
The questions spurred many to distribute the survey beyond the original recipients. A local Reddit thread and Facebook posts have encouraged people to take the survey.
