WICHITA, Kan. — Myles Creighton chipped in for a birdie on the 18th hole at Crestview Country Club on Saturday to become the 15th player with a sub-60 round on the Korn Ferry Tour, and the 29-year-old Canadian’s 11-under-par 59 was the second such score in three days at the Wichita Open.
Adrien Dumont de Chassart, a 25-year-old Belgian player, shot a 59 in the opening round Thursday for a four-stroke lead over five players.
Creighton had 12 birdies and one bogey, losing the stroke on the par-3 eighth hole on a day when the wind gusted to 38 mph at Crestview, which is playing to 6,910 yards for the tournament. Each of the par-5 holes on the layout is just longer than 500 yards, and two of the dozen par-4 holes measure at less than 350 yards apiece.
It was the second time in two years at an event on the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental circuit for PGA Tour hopefuls, that two players had sub-60 rounds in the same week. Chilean player Cristobal Del Solar set the Korn Ferry Tour record with a 57 in the opening round of the Astara Golf Championship. The next day, South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter shot a 59. Neither won the 72-hole tournament.
Del Solar’s round surpassed the Korn Ferry Tour record of 58 by Stephan Jaeger in the opening round of the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, California. Jaeger is a 36-year-old Chattanooga resident who was born in Germany, had a standout prep career at Baylor School, starred for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is in his second stint on the PGA Tour after posting six career wins on the developmental circuit currently known as the Korn Ferry Tour.
There have 18 sub-60 rounds on tours around the world since 2023, including a 59 on the PGA Tour this year by Jake Knapp on Feb. 27 in the first round of the Cognizant Classic.
Creighton shared the 54-hole lead with Quade Cummins (67) at 15-under 195, with Pierceson Coody (67) and Ian Holt (65) another stroke behind.
Dumont de Chassart was tied for 17th at 8 under, having followed his 59 with rounds of 70 and 73.
