The search to replace retiring Chattanooga Fire Chief Phil Hyman has narrowed to six internal candidates, city leaders announced.
Hyman, whose been with the Fire Department for 30 years, is set to retire in July.
“For our last hire, we probably weren’t as transparent and open with the council as we could have been on the front end, so we want to make sure that we have a good, transparent process moving forward,” Steve Wilson, the city’s deputy chief operating officer, told the Chattanooga City Council on Tuesday.
