One denomination prepares for Christian nationalism votes in Chattanooga

Two recommendations regarding Christian nationalism are set to come before the Presbyterian Church in America General Assembly before the end of the gathering.

The first item, if approved, would create a committee with a budget for studying the movement and advising the rest of the denomination on whether the teachings and ideas in Christian nationalism are in opposition with the denomination’s adopted confession of faith.

The second, if passed, would move the denomination to stand with two other smaller Presbyterian denominations, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and the Reformed Presbyterian Church in North America, in condemning “without distinction any theological or political teaching that posits a superiority of race or ethnic identity born of immutable human characteristics” and calling for the repentance of anyone who promotes or associates with such ideas, according to the language in the recommendation.
