Chattanooga’s stepped-up level of development along with the city wooing people countrywide put it on the radar of Sotheby’s International Realty, a top official for the company said Monday.

“We knew this was a market we wanted to enter into,” Tammy Fahmi, senior vice president of global servicing and strategy, said in an interview.

Realty Center of Chattanooga joined the network, and its two offices will now operate as Horizon Sotheby’s International Realty, according to the firm. Sotheby’s first local affiliate in the city has industry veterans and husband and wife team Byron Kelly and Vanessa Mercer as co-owners.

Fahmi said outside homebuyers from locations such as California, Chicago or the Northeast can get more house for their money in Chattanooga.

“There’s certainly the opportunity in Chattanooga to enjoy the lifestyle at a much more potentially affordable — relatively speaking — pace,” she said.
