WHITWELL, Tenn. — Effortlessly unhittable.

That’s the term an umpire who has called several of Whitwell High School pitcher’s Jacob McCurry’s games over the past two seasons used to characterize the senior left-hander.

And the results early in McCurry’s final prep season certainly back up that description.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder’s rock-and-fire motion is uncomplicated — almost like a pitching machine — and has produced one of the most impressive beginnings to a baseball season by a Chattanooga-area player in recent memory.

Three starts produced three no-hitters to begin the season as McCurry silenced the bats of Sequatchie County in one game and Grundy County in two others. He finally gave up a hit in Tuesday’s run-rule win over Lookout Valley, ending a streak of 29 1/3 innings without allowing a hit.
