Kit Gresham was once told by her mother that she’s not the type of personality to be put in a box because “she never had a box to begin with.”
Embracing the fact that things don’t always go as expected has helped Gresham in her University of Tennessee at Chattanooga beach volleyball career as well as off the sand.
“Chaotic is kind of my mojo,” said Gresham, who hasn’t let that keep her from being a regular on the dean’s list and the athletic director’s honor roll (she’s majoring in art with a minor in communications).
She’s one of four seniors on the roster for a UTC program that’s essentially still in its infancy yet has already become the top team in the Ohio Valley Conference and shows the signs of becoming a mainstay in the NCAA tournament. This is just the fifth full season for the Sandy Mocs — the COVID-19 pandemic ended their inaugural season in 2020 after three matches — but it’s also their second consecutive year sweeping the OVC regular-season and tournament championships.
As a two-time All-OVC selection, the 5-foot-11 Gresham — she’s from Marietta, Georgia, where she played for GHSA indoor volleyball power Walton (and was homecoming queen as a senior) while gaining beach volleyball experience through club play — has been a big part of UTC’s fast track to success. And she has helped her team all while very much remaining true to herself.
