The Interstate 75 half of the $161 million Interstate 24/I-75 interchange improvement project at the Tennessee-Georgia line is behind schedule, while the I-24 portion is on track for a 2025 finish.

Two lanes in each direction on I-75 and I-24 were shifted into their final alignment in recent days as the project reached 75% completion, according to the state Department of Transportation. But agency spokesperson Rae Anne Bradley said unexpected issues cropped up on I-75.

“The I-24 section of the project is on track for its original completion date,” Bradley said in an email. “The I-75 section will likely finish a little after that. We’re still working out a revised schedule with the contractor to finish this project as quickly as possible.”

When asked for a cause, Region 2 assistant chief engineer David Oliver’s office deferred to Bradley, who did not have an explanation.
