Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office investigating inmate death at jail

An inmate at the Hamilton County Jail died in custody Tuesday morning, prompting an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, deputies requested medical assistance for Christopher Dewayne Ohara, who was unresponsive, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and medical personnel “began to render life-saving medical aid,” including CPR and the use of defibrillator, according to the release.

Emergency services transported Ohara to a hospital, where he later died, according to authorities. Ohara was arrested Saturday and was being held on charges of driving on a revoked or suspended license and driving under the influence.

The Sheriff’s Office said “preliminary findings at the scene suggest the incident is likely related to a medical event, as there are no indications of foul play, trauma or drug use during Ohara’s time at the facility.”

An investigation is ongoing.
