Runway equipment issue causing delays at Hartsfield-Jackson

A runway equipment issue caused half ofall flights to be delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Sunday, officials said.

In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it temporarily slowed arrivals into the airport as technicians worked on the equipment problem.

On Sunday, more than 1,200 outbound and arriving flights were listed as being delayed, about 50% of the airport’s schedule, FlightAware data shows. Just 10 flights were canceled.

By Monday morning, the delays had subsided, according to FlightAware and FAA data.

The ground delay program was expected to last until at least 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the FAA, which did not provide additional information on the equipment issue.

Hartsfield-Jackson spokesman Andrew Gobeil advised travelers Sunday to “monitor their airlines for updates.”
