WINCHESTER, Tenn. — The old pavilion now sits rusting, parts of its ceiling torn and hanging, and Chris Guess, Franklin County’s mayor, estimates it’s only used (other than for barrel racing practice) about six times a year.
The Southern Middle Tennessee Pavilion and its 40-acre lot is one of several sites eyed for redevelopment in a $1.2 million federal grant awarded to Franklin County for brownfield remediation assessments.
The money will go to creating plans for cleaning up and reusing sites and will support community engagement efforts in Winchester, Cowan and Huntland, an EPA official said.
Brownfields are contaminated sites, often former industrial facilities or gas stations, that have been under- or unused because of the contamination.
