Big changes are looming for the Spring Fling, which may help bring the event back to Chattanooga.
Or at least a portion of what will be a new look for the TSSAA’s spring sports bonanza could return to the Scenic City.
Tennessee is the only state in the country that holds an Olympic-style format with all of its state championship meets and tournaments for high school spring sports in one metropolitan area. The unique event was born in Chattanooga in 1993 and remained a success here for its first nine years.
Now, with boys’ and girls’ lacrosse added to the spring sports championship calendar this year and girls’ flag football officially coming on board in 2026, the Spring Fling will almost certainly be broken up due to a lack of manpower needed to run the additional events.
Combined with the contract between the TSSAA and Murfreesboro as host site having expired after this past week’s championship events were completed, the time is right to reconfigure the Fling.
