Just before halftime of his team’s key Division II-AA East Region showdown with Silverdale Baptist last Thursday, Boyd Buchanan senior David Green knew what play was coming his way.
Finding himself one-on-one with tSeahawks physical tight end Tanner Bayne, it was Green who delivered a powerful hit to drop his opponent three yards shy of the end zone as time ran out in the first half.
Realizing the magnitude of the stop, Green clutched his fists and yelled as the Buccaneers headed into the halftime locker room with a spark, still leading by seven points.
“We knew that was a big moment to get that stop going into halftime,” Green said. “I anticipated the route they threw. I just had to come up and make a play.”
Boyd Buchanan’s 5-foot-10, 190-pound defensive back was equally as prominent on the offensive side as he rushed for a career-high 223 yards on 21 carries with three going for touchdowns in the 49-28 triumph.
