Here are four surprise outcomes that stand out following last week’s prep football games across Georgia and Tennessee.
› Sequatchie County grounds Walker Valley: One of the state’s most high-flying offenses was held scoreless as a dominant Sequatchie County defense led the way to a 7-2 home victory over Class 5A’s Walker Valley in a battle of state-ranked teams.
Sophomore Brooks McIntyre and junior Gowan Brown each had crucial interceptions and led a secondary that forced more incompletions (18) than it allowed completions (17) against a Mustang offense that entered play averaging 41 points and nearly 300 passing yards per game.
Meanwhile, one of the area’s most impactful two-way stars, junior Kason Hicks, had a monster sack and also ran over a defender on his 62-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Hicks was part of a stout defensive front that also stuffed Walker Valley’s run game, giving up just 26 yards on 17 carries.
