Country singer John Rich said he asked President Donald Trump to appoint him as a “citizen advocate” to monitor the activities of the Tennessee Valley Authority and report back to Trump.
The president appoints leaders to the TVA board of directors, which sets policy for the nation’s largest public utility, but Rich asked for a new position, he told podcast host Shawn Ryan in a 4 1/2 hour interview on Ryan’s show Tuesday.
Rich, a Texas native and Nashville resident with ties to Cheatham County, Tennessee, raised awareness about local opposition to a planned TVA natural gas-fired plant near farmland in the county bordering Nashville.
TVA backed out of the plan in July after Rich, one half of the duo “Big & Rich,” posted on social media that he’d shared his concerns about the plant directly with Trump.
