With a dish this delicious, Southern Living didn’t need the remainder of 2025 to name it the most popular casserole of the year. I can see how it would be quite popular. It’s filled with gooey creamy ingredients with noodles and ground beef.
Growing up, casseroles were a big thing in my family. My father loved them, so when Mama cooked, it would often be a casserole that would appear on the table. When I married my husband, I discovered he was more of a meat-and-potatoes guy, but over the years he has learned to enjoy casseroles every so often. So I tried making this one to see if it was as good as promised.

The name alone, Company’s Coming Casserole, should give a hint as to the steps involved in making it. It’s the kind you would probably only go to the trouble to make for when there are extras around the table.
It has 14 ingredients, many of which you probably have in your pantry or refrigerator. So that does save some time and money. Still, I had to run to the store to get the right noodles, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, mozzarella cheese and ground beef. Apparently my cupboard was running on empty.
