A convicted murderer from Chattanooga who has been challenging his verdict for eight years is expected to receive results from new DNA testing on a piece of crime scene evidence.

Stephen Lester was expected to appear in court Friday for an update on the DNA testing of a bloody cigarette butt found stuck to the body of Edward Glenn Jr., but his date was pushed until next month.

Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Amanda Dunn granted independent laboratory testing at a November hearing, and the results were estimated to take about six months.

Lester, 37, was adamant about having the cigarette butt tested, as he believed the results could reveal the identity of the true killer, his attorney, Ben McGowan, said at the hearing.

Glenn was found fatally shot on Jan. 10, 2013. Lester stood trial for his murder almost three years later.
