DEA suspends Chattanooga pharmacy’s license

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration issued an immediate suspension order Monday to a Chattanooga pharmacy.

A+ Pharmacy will no longer have the ability to handle controlled substances, according to a DEA press release. The suspension is the result of a joint investigation by DEA investigators and the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy, which said it uncovered compliance issues tied to the Controlled Substances Act.

Officials said the emergency suspension was issued due to what they described as an “imminent danger to public health or safety,” the press release said. Authorities described the findings of the investigation as “egregious,” saying details of the case go beyond standard regulations.

“The details of this case are disturbing and go well beyond regulatory infractions,” Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott, head of DEA’s Louisville Field Division, said in a statement. “When the allegations are made public, the community will be stunned.”

The pharmacy has 30 days to request a hearing to challenge the action, but the suspension will remain in effect during the administrative process, authorities said.
