Sales of Volkswagen’s electric SUV, the ID.4, remained stubbornly low for the first few months of 2026 as the company prepares to stop making the brand in Chattanooga.
The German automaker sold 338 ID.4s in America from Jan. 1 to March 31, compared to 7,663 across the same time span in 2025 — a 96% drop.
In July through September of 2025, ID.4 sales hit a peak, at 12,470 during the three-month period. That coincided with the Sept. 30 expiration of federal tax credits for electric vehicles. Those credits were worth $7,500 for new cars and $4,000 for used ones.
Sales then slumped to 248 in October through December and stayed low during the first quarter of 2026.
