McCallie senior Spencer Bradley was in the perfect spot at the right time as sophomore teammate Brad Conner made a remarkable run past three Baylor defenders deep into the box, where he challenged a fourth one before tapping the soccer right to the powerful left foot of Bradley for an equalizing — and emphatic — score on the road in the 75th minute.

Bradley provided plenty of second-half heroics as he also assisted on the Blue Tornado’s other goal with a pass to the center of the box to find senior forward Alejandro Dominguez for a knock-in score at the 55th minute that gave the visitors a boost in confidence and energy.

McCallie fought back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to force a 2-2 draw in Friday’s TSSAA Division II-AA District 2 matchup between programs considered state championship contenders. The Blue Tornado are now 8-1-3 overall and 2-0-1 in league play, while the Red Raiders are 13-1-2, 2-0-1.

“This is probably my favorite moment,” Bradley said. “The 2024 team was fun for me to get into those games as a sophomore, and then winning state and getting ranked No. 1 in the country. But tonight for me is definitely on par with that. Going from being an underclassman to being a senior and scoring those goals is definitely a pivotal part of my career and could help be a turning point for us.

“We did this without one of our top players in Finn (Arnold) tonight. We have to keep working harder and harder, because we are going to play them again. It’s inevitable. We both have work ethic and stamina. I think tonight we were just able to push a little harder in the end and go the direction we wanted to go.”
