There’s a new(ish) mental health disorder recently identified as a hindrance to relationships and individual well-being. It’s called ROCD, Relationship Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. When I first read about this new diagnosis, I had two reactions.
First: This makes sense.
Second: I’m not completely convinced it’s real.
This column seeks to externally process this concept.
ROCD is not a separate diagnosis from obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is a term clinicians use when obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors become centered on a romantic partner or the relationship itself.
