One of two men being sought by the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a nonfatal shooting has turned himself in while the alleged victim remains in critical condition.

Kobe Maurice Jackson, 25, of Etowah, Tennessee, is being held on a $700,000 bond on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in a nonfatal shooting, McMinn County authorities said in a statement. Jackson turned himself in Monday. Jail records also show Jackson’s bond was revoked on two unrelated prior charges of assault and disorderly conduct.

The shooting happened Friday on County Road 435 near the town of Englewood, authorities said. A blue 2011 Ford Fusion believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered Saturday.

Jackson turned himself in to deputies at a relative’s home in Etowah in eastern McMinn County, according to authorities.

“Over the past few days, Lt. Bill Cherry has been actively coordinating searches and following up on tips in and around McMinn County, while at the same time Lt. Jason Bautsch has been conversing with Jackson and his family to encourage a peaceful resolution to the situation,” Guy was quoted as saying in the statement. “Lt. Bautsch knows Jackson from his time as school resource officer. That relationship was critical in working out this surrender.”

A second man sought in the shooting remains at large and is described only as a Black male, Guy said Tuesday via text. His name is unknown, and he is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to call McMinn County’s 911 office at 423-745-3222.
