Preachers can be an interesting lot.
By “interesting,” I mean as weird as a cactus Q-tip. I say this, by the way, fully aware that I myself am a preacher, and have been for 44 years now. God called me when I was 12, and I started right away, even many years before going to Bible college. That is quite long enough to have observed all the oddities in others and, yes, in myself as well.
You won’t have to look very long for mine. Just yesterday, all of my members were taking and posting pictures of me standing on the choir banister with arms stretched out over my assistant pastor, demonstrating God’s eyes being on us from 1 Peter 3:12. They also have pictures of me laying on the communion table at other junctures – the communion table that the secretaries recently found me wildly sawing the pointy corners off of because our toddlers kept running into them.
There is enough I could say about my own pastoral oddities to fill a novel. I have learned to embrace them; it’s an unusual life, but a very enjoyable one.
Just when I think I have come to know all of the oddities of the ministry, though, a new one seems to pop its head up like some deranged gopher. Enter the “You are rediculous” (sic) comment on one of my Pastor Bo Wagner Facebook posts. And why, exactly, am I “rediculous” and “spouting non-sense (sic)?” For recommending “a man written book” instead of always and only reading the Bible.
