Hamilton County Commissioner David Sharpe, D-Red Bank, said he intends to introduce a resolution at the commission’s next meeting to put the District 11 school board vacancy left by Democrat Jill Black on the November ballot.

Black, who is moving to Canada with her family, submitted her resignation, effective immediately, to the Hamilton County Board of Education on Aug. 21., but it’s been unclear whether her replacement will be chosen by voters in November or two years from now.

District 11 includes Alton Park, East Ridge, Lookout Mountain and Lookout Valley.

The decision falls, in part, to Hamilton County Commission Chair Ken Smith, R-Hixson, who controls what’s on the commission’s upcoming agenda.
