If the weather cooperates in the coming days and weeks, contract crews reconstructing the second phase of the Interstate 75/Interstate 24 interchange in Chattanooga will be performing paving work and attending to final details on the I-24 portion of the project and pouring concrete for the I-75 half.
The project is now 97% complete, state transportation agency spokesperson Rae Anne Bradley said. The $161.6 million price tag hasn’t changed.
Final asphalt and concrete paving marks the beginning of the end for the project as the delayed finish date for spring looms, and agency officials are asking drivers to be patient.
“This work is an important step toward finishing Phase 2,” agency Region Director Danny Oliver said in an emailed statement. “We appreciate drivers’ patience during these lane closures. Once complete, the project will ease congestion, improve safety and provide a more efficient travel experience through one of Tennessee’s busiest corridors.”
