Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp fielded questions Monday afternoon and outlined his vision for the future growth of the county as election season begins to ramp up.

Wamp, a Republican, spoke to dozens of elected officials and local leaders at the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club — a conservative organization seeking to get community members active in government. During the meeting, he spoke about how strengthening schools and their technical training, as well as reserving tax abatements for the right projects, all feed into his ideas to keep the county growing at a healthy rate.

Wamp’s philosophy on growth, he said, is that the projects that come down the pipeline must first serve residents currently living here. That’s the main challenge he sees the county facing, he said.

“We have to make sure that we look out for our people first,” Wamp said. “In that process of making yourself appealing to others, we still put the people and the families who live here — and I would argue those who have the least opportunities — we put them first.”
