DECATUR, Tenn. — A $100,000 grant for site development at the Meigs County Industrial Park will fund preliminary studies for a sewer extension project to make the park more attractive to potential industrial and commercial tenants.
The grant will be used to hire a firm to begin early work to learn what needs to be done to establish a sewer system for the park, County Mayor Eddie Jewell said.
“There’s a very limited, if any, sewer there, and it’s really kept the industrial park from getting a five-star rating for companies coming in,” Jewell said by phone. “It’s got plenty of water, and it’s sitting right next to the fire station and an EMS station. It’s got plenty of power but no sewer or very little.”

If the study can be performed for less than the grant amount, Jewell said he hopes to use any leftover money on getting the sewer project started to boost its state certification rating.
