Million Dollar Chicken, Marry Me Pasta, Husband Delight Casserole — even Million Dollar Pot Roast. I’ve never thought of attaching “million dollar” to a simple pot roast, but there you go. So many of the recipe names that have come out over the past couple of years seem to have some sort of money or love angle to them.
Would you really rather have that million-dollar chicken than $1 million cash? No, no, no. If you make Marry Me Banana Bread, will a proposal be headed your way? Good luck with that! And will my husband dance in delight after eating that Husband Delight casserole? Highly doubtful. Oh! And what about allrecipes.com’s Million Dollar Cucumber Salad? Really?
Why can’t recipes have simple names just like they used to? And now the latest that I’ve seen is divorce carrot cake. It’s getting beyond ridiculous. I even got an email from Taste of Home with “12 Marry Me Recipes” in the subject line, and only half of them were marry-me recipes. Most of the others were million-dollar-something recipes. Recipe creators just aren’t as creative as they used to be, apparently.
So here’s a recipe I actually made for million-dollar soup, and while I didn’t feel like I had won the lottery, it was very good. Coincidentally, Southern Living came out with a million-dollar soup, too, that’s totally different. Whatever happened to today’s recipe creators? Little imagination when it comes to recipe titles. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
