After several days of losing football players to the NCAA transfer portal, Tennessee finally received its first transfer commitment.

Former Kansas State junior cornerback Qua Moss announced Sunday afternoon that he will be joining the Volunteers. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder will be coached by a mostly new defensive staff that is now headed by coordinator Jim Knowles and includes co-coordinator and secondary coach Anthony Poindexter as well as cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter as recent additions.

“It just immediately felt like home,” Moss told 247Sports.com on Sunday while visiting Knoxville. “The coaches are fresh into the program just like me, and when I got here, I just felt as if they were big brothers to me. I know I’m in the right hands, and I’m ready to show Tennessee why I belong here.”

Moss, whose first full name is Mar’quavious, played at Troup County High School in West Point, Georgia, before beginning his college career in 2023 at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. He then transferred to West Georgia for the 2024 season, when he racked up 56 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and one forced fumble while also returning seven punts for 107 yards for the Football Championship Subdivision program.

In his one season at Kansas State, which went 6-6 and opted out of a bowl game, Moss had 41 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Moss will join a Tennessee secondary that is undergoing an overhaul with Jalen McMurray and Andre Turrentine out of eligibility, Colton Hood and Jermod McCoy having declared for the NFL, and with Rickey Gibson III and Boo Carter having entered the transfer portal.

In other portal news, redshirt freshman William Satterwhite is leaving Tennessee after playing 136 snaps in eight contests this season as the backup center, while former Vols kicker Max Gilbert has signed with Arkansas. Tennessee plays the Razorbacks in Fayetteville on Oct. 10.
