Viewing Trump as a liberator

Someone asked me what I thought of President Trump. As a lucubration studier of our past presidents, I said: “I wouldn’t want him teaching my children’s Sunday school class, but he is the greatest president America has ever had.” Consider where we’re at.

The brain-dead voters of New York City (as one American city out of many) recently elected a Muslim communist dictator to govern their city. Instead of the Holy Bible, he laid his hand on the Koran at his swearing-in, a book that calls for war 117 times and the beating, stoning, and subjugation of woman, to name a few. A belief whose goal is the annihilation of all Jews, and yet 30% of Jewish voters helped elect him. His collectivist principles are in line with the teaching of Marx. So, where are we headed?

Consider how many people have died under the governments of Lenin, Mao, Stalin and Castro, to name a few. How did they come to power? Castro is a close parallel to Mamdani.

Fidel’s father was a prosperous business man, and he grew up in comfort and privilege. At a young age, he took his first try at revolution. In 1953, he tried to overthrow the government of Batista. His followers portrayed him as a Marxist leading a consumer revolt protesting high electric bills. In 1957, while hiding in the hills, he was interviewed by bilious Herbert Matthews, a reporter with the New York Times. He wrote that Castro was fighting for a democratic Cuba. A Cuba of liberty and social justice!

Che Guevara (Fidel’s chief executioner) would later state that Matthews’ articles put new life into Fidel’s movement. On New Year’s Day 1959, the island belonged to him. In April 1959, he declared on NBC’s “Meet the Press”: “Democracy is my ideal. I am not a communist.” He would later tell the truth when he said, “I am a Marxist-Leninist and will be till death!” He banned freedom of speech, religion, property and the right of people to leave the island. In the ’60s, he threw thousands in jail for political reasons and murdered 10,000. Over 33,000 drowned trying to escape. All were made equal, from janitors to doctors. All were paid $200 a year. Free health care for all, so good that people of the world are dying to get there for care. Left-leaning politicians and journalists were overwhelmed by his BS. Dan Rather called him “Cuba’s Elvis.”

Without President Trump, we would all be singing “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.”

Community thanked for Signal funding

We have so much for which to be grateful in our community, including the 41 dedicated men and women who serve on the Signal Mountain Police and Fire forces. On behalf of them, thank you for your contribution to the 2025 S.M. Robertson Police/Fire Christmas Fund. The funds were distributed on Christmas Eve alongside an excellent Christmas meal prepared by Haley Ogrodowczyk (bride of Police Captain Scott Ogrodowczyk). Whether you have given since the fund was started in the early 1970s or this was your first year giving, we appreciate your sacrificial generosity, which blessed the families of these men and women who faithfully serve us every day.

It’s an honor and privilege to get a glimpse of the kindness in our community. May God grant your family joy, peace, and safety in 2026!

Prefers newspaper stop printing Rants

I am writing to strongly recommend that the Chattanooga Times Free Press stop publishing “Rants” and only publish letters and comments submitted by identified, verified, actual human beings. Anonymity is the refuge of a scoundrel, to coin a phrase, and should have no place in civil discourse.

If a person does not have the courage of their convictions, then their “opinion” is of no merit and of little value and should be dismissed. To broadcast one’s ideas or beliefs in the public forum while hiding one’s identity is akin to wearing a hood or a mask and indicates either shame, cowardice or malicious intent. Just as a free people must not tolerate intolerance, we cannot allow anyone to say anything anywhere at any time without responsibility and consequence. Words matter and actions matter and should be used without fear in a news publication.
