There’s room for two contraptions to pull riders up the east face of Lookout Mountain, according to Rock City and CARTA, which owns the Incline Railway.

Rock City gave Chattanooga’s public transit agency advance notice that it was planning to build a gondola lift from the base of the mountain to Rock City’s famous rock gardens.

While the 130-year-old Incline Railway takes riders from the St. Elmo neighborhood of Chattanooga up to the Tennessee side of the mountain, the Rock City lift would take off and land in Georgia, around 3 miles south.
